Sportswear giant Nike salutes the 20th anniversary of the Air Max 97 with a pack paying tribute to the phenomenal 90's silhouette. Forged in the form of the “Metallic Gold” Pack, the Swoosh accompanies the AM97 with several groundbreaking models showcasing the lustrous colorway. To flaunt its full force, notable models in the Air Max lineage, namely the 95, the Plus, the Zero, and the Jewell each receives a 24K premium makeover, making it a must-have in any sneaker rotation.
The Air Max 95 returns after 22 years in a Metallic Gold colorway. Designed by Sergio Lozano, Nike was inspired from the natural lines of a canyon, resulting into a sensual, sculptural look. Designed to be always in motion, the Swoosh released the product in complement to the human body’s form (ribs, vertebrae, muscle fibers, and skin).
1997 marked the birth of the full-length Air Max cushioning technology. Nike's design took after the highly-efficient Japanese bullet train, giving birth to one of the most iconic sneakers ever, the Air Max 97. With speed in mind, the shoe featured fluid lines on the side panel and a full 3M for those that like to run at night.
A follow-up to the 97 the year after was the 1998 Air Max Plus which quickly transcended as another cultural icon. Called by some as “TN” or “Tuned 1” for its techy kinetic design, the AM Plus introduced a whole new world of color with its gradient upper. For 2017, the AM Plus returns in an elusive Metallic Gold colorway.
The one before the 1. A Tinker Hatfield original was born in 2015 in the form of the Air Max Zero QS. Brought to life from the early sketches of the Air Max 1, the Zero quickly became an instant classic for its retro design for the modern era.
Born from the love of the Air Max Plus, Nike created a Women’s only Air Max Jewell for 2017. Known as the second women’s-only model in the Air Max range (next to the Thea), the sneaker is a sleeked-out version of the Plus. Nike puts the Jewell in the sneaker map this year by including it in the highly-anticipated pack.
