A Look at the OG Air Max 180 “Ultramarine”

Air Max month is upon us and an OG colorway makes a return with the Nike Air Max 180 “Ultramarine”. It's one of OG Air Max shoe which inspired the Air Max 270 design. It features a synthetic leather and textile construction for a comfortable fit while the foam midsole enhanced by Max Air cushioning guarantees lightweight support. The heel and forefoot has added outsole rubber for better traction.

The Nike Air Max 180 was released in 1991 and was designed by Tinker Hatfield and Bruce Kilgore. According to Dave Forland, Nike’s Director of Cushioning Innovation, the Air Max 180 is one of the most difficult Air Max sneakers to make. It got its name from the 180 degrees visibility of its Max Air unit.

This silhouette has been deeply ingrained in the the popular culture over the years with the likes of Michael Jordan frequently sporting the silhouette in 1992 and the very first Kanye West sneaker collab, “College Drop-out”, in 2004. Eminem even auctioned a 1 of 1 “Shady 45” Air Max 180 for charity.
