2016 Year in Review: Developing Manila into a Sneaker Destination

As 2016’s curtain comes to a close, Sole Academy’s mission in delivering the Best experience for all is more exuberant than ever.

Here are 10 defining moments that pursue our quest in making Manila a world-renowned sneaker destination.  

1. SOLE ACADEMY U.P. TOWN CENTER

Back in 2011, Sole Academy, opened its first store in Katipunan, Quezon City. Being a pioneer in the lifestyle sneaker movement, SA's first store cemented its Best In Class status.  

Sole Academy Katipunan established a solid base of sneaker enthusiasts built with its unequaled camaraderie for their passion in lifestyle sneakers. More than 6 months ago, the original store gave way to a bigger location - U.P. Town Center

2. THE RELAUNCHED SA APP

A first of its kind in the Philippines, Sole Academy's mobile application gets a revamp for 2016. Modernized for the consumers, the application served as a guide to promos, rewards, mechanics, and store updates.

3. THE RETURN OF THE SNEAKER HUNT

Back in 2011, Sole Academy started the Sneaker Hunt at the Ateneo De Manila University. In celebration of SA's 5th Year Anniversary, the lifestyle store partnered with Smart Communications for the return of the festivities which gave away free sneakers. For 2016, SA relived history by visiting 8 campuses (UST, DLSU, UE, NU, Adamson, FEU, UP, ADMU) with HUENITE.

4. TALKS IN DIFFERENT CAMPUSES

"Start 'em young" they said. This year, Sole Academy catered to different inspirational talks at the University of the Philippines and at the Enderun Colleges. The symposiums were organized by the said schools to inspire students in eventually developing their own homegrown brand/business.

5. BEEFED UP SA ESSENTIALS AND COLLABORATIONS

In line with delivering exclusive lifestyle sneakers in the Metro, Sole Academy's SA Essentials catered to more designs and principle accessories. Watch out for more designs from the Brand this 2017. Also, for the fifth consecutive year, international brand JanSport has chosen SA for an all-new backpack collaboration. The Right Pack Signature Series (RPSS) is the backpacking company's program which only collaborates with 31 selected stores worldwide. 

6. VARIOUS ACTIVATIONS ACROSS THE METRO

To expand Sole Academy's clout, several activations all across Metro Manila were held for different brands. Notable events includes, The Sole Cleaning Weekend in Bonifacio High Street and the Nike Presto Launch at The Palace Pool Club.

7. HIGH ENERGY RELEASES

With 2016 being a year of high energy releases from different brands, Sole Academy made it sure that the best products were made available in-store for the Filipino consumers. Also, several of these featured various release mechanics, one of them was the Amazing Human Race for the NMD_Hu. The first of its kind event strategically placed 5 cars around Bonifacio Global City installed with Human Race stickers.

8. THE FIFTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY

The Fifth Star in the Calendar, Sole Academy's 5th Year Celebration. Instead of a traditional party, SA organized the anniversary event to assist a collector in selling his pairs for his medications. To raise more funds, several basketball sneakers and non-lifestyle pairs were also sold with all proceeds going to the collector.

9. THE SA'ICHI PORTAL

SA'ICHI was launched as a portal that served as a "hub" for local releases and sneaker-related events. Also, SA'ICHI caters to anything connected with the #BESTINCLASS life + style. Since its debut in August, the website featured 6 different individuals that shared their stories with different principles, Bigboy Cheng focused on humility, Yu-Ming Wu served as an inspiration for Filipinos, Liza Santiago highlighted core family values, Jon Timbre exhibited Filipino pride, JD Cortez spoke about sneaker collection behaviors, and Boom Gonzalez inspired others with his work ethics.
